Kopano is a Chicago based cultural worker who communicates through sound and movement. Seeing theirself in the legacy of Pan-Africanism, Kopano strives to connect their South African and native-Chicagoan roots through musical production and collaboration. In 2017, they debuted their first performance art piece "Black Women Spectra" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. In 2022, Kopano received their music degree from Oberlin College and Conservatory, and studied abroad at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. As a 2024 recipient of Chicago DCASE's Individual Artist Grant, Kopano is on a journey to reintegrate the true purpose of artistry into community by bridging genre and culture gaps.
