KOPANO

Kopano is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from Chicago, Illinois. They began studying music at four years old and grew into composition and performance at the age of fourteen. Kopano has collaborated with artists such as Omar Apollo, Jamila Woods, and Saba on recorded and live performances. In 2017, they debuted their first political performance art piece "Black Women Spectra" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Earlier that year they released their first project "Just In Time For Love," speaking to the various forms of intimacy and love their relationships took shape as a teenager. In 2022, Kopano completed their music degree at Oberlin College and Conservatory, and spent their last semester studying abroad at University of Cape Town in South Africa. As a 2022 recipient of the John Walt Foundation Scholarship, Kopano plans to release a demo project in 2023 that conjoins the past and present to sonically imagine a utopian future.
